Top 10 Must-Visit Places in Kashmir

Author

By Adventure Richa Holidays   |   April 11, 2025

Hi there! I'm Richa – a full-time explorer, part-time over-packer, and proud founder of Adventure Richa Holidays. I recently fulfilled a lifelong dream – visiting Kashmir, the crown jewel of India. And let me tell you, even a thousand Instagram reels can't do justice to its beauty. Let me walk you through my unforgettable journey with a touch of humor, dollops of real insights, and all the juicy details you need before you pack your bags for paradise.

"They say if there is heaven on Earth, it's here... it's here... it's here!"
Monastery in the Himalayas
1. Srinagar – The Heartbeat of Kashmir

I landed in Srinagar, and BAM! The view from the airplane window looked like someone photoshopped Switzerland into my Google Maps.

Highlights :
  • Dal Lake Shikara ride – Felt like a royal in slow motion.
  • Houseboat stay – Woke up to floating vegetable markets and Kahwa tea.
  • Mughal Gardens – Like walking through a royal Instagram filter.

💡 Travel Tip: Book a houseboat for at least a night. It's romantic if you're couple... like me.

2. Gulmarg – Snowball Fights & Gondolas

I screamed like a kid on a candy high when I saw snow. Snowball fights? Check. Slipping like a cartoon character? Double check.

Why visit?
  • Gondola Ride One of the world’s highest cable cars. Views? UNREAL.
  • Skiing & Snowboarding I tried skiing. Ended up sliding down like a potato. No regrets.

❄️ Fun Fact: Gulmarg turns into a winter sports paradise from December to February.

3. Pahalgam – Valley of Shepherds & My Soul

I thought Pahalgam was peaceful – until I found out about Betaab Valley, Aru Valley, and Chandanwari. Each one is postcard-worthy.

Top things to do:
  • River rafting in Lidder River. (Adrenaline + ice water = priceless memories)
  • Horse riding to Baisaran (a.k.a. Mini Switzerland) – My horse was clearly the boss.

🐴 Insider Tip: Hire a local guide. They know the hidden photo spots and the best Kahwa stalls.

4. Sonamarg – The Meadow of Gold

I visited in April and the meadows looked like a mix of Game of Thrones and Yash Raj Films.

Don’t Miss:
  • Thajiwas Glacier trek Ice. Everywhere. Even in my boots. Worth it.
  • Camping under the stars. My tent zipped itself because of the wind – it was spooky and magical.

5. Kupwara – The Hidden Gem

Not many tourists go here – which made it perfect for me. Think untouched valleys and picture-perfect villages.

Why go?
  • Bangus Valley Offbeat and surreal.
  • Seemab Valley Just me, my camera, and nature.

🌿 Travel Hack: Great spot if you’re tired of the tourist crowd. Peace meets paradise here.

6. Yusmarg – The Lesser-Known Heaven

Yusmarg is like that underrated indie movie everyone ends up loving.

Perfect for:
  • Peaceful picnics
  • Short treks
  • Saying “Wow” every 5 minutes

😍 Local Love: Try the local bread and noon chai. Weird combo. Delicious result.

Monastery in the Himalayas
7. Doodhpathri – The Valley of Milk

No, the rivers don’t literally flow with milk. But the color? So milky-white, I had to blink twice.

Fun things to do:
  • Picnicking by the river
  • Trying to pronounce Doodhpathri right.

🏞️ Pro Tip: It’s ideal for a day trip from Srinagar.

Monastery in the Himalayas
8. Gurez Valley – Where the Internet Can’t Find You

No network, no Netflix, just you and nature. I stayed two nights and found parts of myself I’d forgotten.

Must-see:
  • Habba Khatoon Peak
  • Traditional log houses and warm locals

🧘 Perfect digital detox location.

Final Thoughts: Why Kashmir Stole My Heart

I went to Kashmir expecting beauty. What I found was beyond imagination – kindness, calmness, and a connection to nature I’d been craving.
And yes, I bought more pashminas than I care to admit. Don’t judge.
If you're dreaming of snow-capped mountains, rich culture, and soul-stirring views – it’s time. Book your next adventure with Adventure Richa Holidays – and maybe I’ll bump into you there!
