From Ganga Aarti to Himalayan Treks: Best Things to Do in Rishikesh, Haridwar & Mussoorie

Hi, I’m Richa—a storyteller, mountain chaser, and professional overpacker. A few months ago, I decided to take a spiritual-turned-adventurous break and explore Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Mussoorie—three gems nestled in the lap of Uttarakhand. Let me walk you through the highlights—the must-dos, the don’t-miss, and the “you have to try this” stuff.

I thought I’d find peace. I did.
I also found adrenaline, insane views, street food that changed my life, and moments that made me laugh out loud (mostly at myself).

🌸 Haridwar: Where Faith Meets the Ganga

I started my journey in Haridwar—the gateway to the gods. The vibe here is sacred, slow, and surreal.

1. Witnessing the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri
    One word: goosebumps.
As the sun dipped, priests lit up a thousand lamps, chants filled the air, and the Ganges glowed like molten gold. I folded my hands, closed my eyes, and felt something shift. It was pure magic—not just for the religious, but for the restless too.

📸 Travel Tip: Go early, grab a good spot near the steps, and keep your phone down for a moment—you’ll thank me.

2. Eat Like the Locals Do
Don’t even think about skipping Haridwar’s street food :
    • Kachori Sabzi at Mohan Ji Puri Wale
    • Aloo Tikki so spicy I had to chase it with two glasses of lassi
    • Hot jalebis that made me break my “no sugar” pact in 0.3 seconds

🌊 Rishikesh: The Land of Chill and Chants

A short ride later, I arrived in Rishikesh—and instantly fell in love. It’s where yoga meets adventure, and where every street smells of incense and masala chai.

1. Walk Across Laxman Jhula (and Try Not to Scream When It Wobbles)

I may or may not have squealed when a scooter zoomed past me on the bridge. But the view of the river, temples, and hills? Worth every mini heart attack.

2. River Rafting – Because I Thought I Was Brave

I signed up thinking, "How hard can it be?"

Ten minutes later, I was shrieking while waves slapped me in the face. But once the fear faded, it was pure fun. Cold, wet, thrilling fun.

🎒 Pro Tip: Do the Shivpuri to Rishikesh stretch. It’s got rapids, calm stretches, and picture-perfect views.

3. Yoga by the Ganga – A Breath of Peace

After all that rafting chaos, I joined a sunrise yoga session at Parmarth Niketan. Birds chirping, the river flowing, and a peaceful instructor who didn’t laugh when I fell out of a pose. Bless her.

4. Café-Hopping in Tapovan

Yes, Rishikesh is spiritual. But also—café culture is strong here:

  • The Beatles Café for views and veggie burgers
  • Little Buddha Café for chill vibes and momos
  • 60’s Café Delmar for sunset and silence

I wrote a whole journal entry here. Okay fine, half a journal and the rest was just food orders.

🌲 Mussoorie: The Queen of the Hills (and My Heart)

Next stop: Mussoorie, the hill station of dreams. Think misty mornings, winding roads, and a chill that makes every sip of chai feel like a hug.

1. The Camel’s Back Road Walk

It’s not a tough trek, but it’s a scenic one. I walked, clicked pictures, talked to strangers, and ate hot corn on the cob from a roadside stall. Simple joy.

2. Meeting Ruskin Bond (Sort of) at Cambridge Book Depot

I didn’t meet him, but I did buy three books and left a note for him. If you’re lucky, you might catch him on a Saturday!

3. Lal Tibba – A View Worth Waking Up For

The highest point in Mussoorie, with telescopes, coffee, and views that look photoshopped. I went early morning and had the place nearly to myself. The silence? Priceless.

Final Thoughts: Mountains Heal, Chai Helps, and Uttarakhand is Underrated

What started as a spiritual escape turned into a full-blown adventure—with laughter, selfies, chai spills, and memories I’ll never shut up about.
If you’re looking to explore Uttarakhand beyond just the clichés, Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Mussoorie offer the perfect mix of soul, thrill, and local color. Trust me, whether you’re a solo traveler, on a girls’ trip, or just need a break from city noise—this route delivers.

If you’re looking to explore a place with heart, history, flavor, and soul, trust me—Kashmir is calling. Answer it.
